DCM is committed to complying fully with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). COPPA requires that we inform parents and legal guardians about if and how we collect, use, and disclose personal information from children under 13 years of age, and that if such information is collected, we obtain the consent of parents and guardians in order for children under 13 years of age to use certain features of the DCM Site. Below we explain how DCM addresses this. We urge children under 13 years of age to check with their parents before entering information on any website and we urge parents to discuss with their children restrictions regarding the online submission of personal information to anyone they don’t know.
What Information Is Collected?
You may, at your option, provide certain information, including personally identifiable information via the DCM Site. Personally identifiable information relates to information that identifies a particular individual, such as an individual’s name, postal address, e-mail address, and telephone number.
If you e-mail us through the “Contact” link on the DCM Site, you may be asked for certain information, such as your first name and e-mail address, so we can respond to your questions and comments. You may choose to provide additional information as well. Additionally, we provide a phone number and postal address for communications.
DCM only collects personally identifiable information from our visitors who are 13 years of age or older, when it is voluntarily disclosed, such as to sign up for memberships, donate to the museum, ask questions, or to receive our electronic newsletter. DCM does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age.
E-mails and e-mail addresses that you send to us are stored in confidential databases with limited access. DCM may sometimes automatically respond to inquiries and transactions you submit.
Log data collected on web servers both within DCM’s control and under the control of DCM’s third party service provider(s), who is/are required to maintain such data on a confidential basis, supplies DCM with aggregate information about the number of visits to different pages on our site. DCM may use such aggregate information to improve access to our content based on our visitors’ browsers and operating system types to make our content more readily available. We do not link the log data collected to personal information submitted online when participating in our activities.
From time to time, we may share aggregate information about our website usage and traffic patterns with third parties to comply with various reporting obligations or for business or marketing purposes. Such aggregate information does not contain personally identifiable information.
Electronic Newsletter Subscription
DCM offers parents, guardians, and visitors 13 years of age and older the opportunity to sign up to receive the DCM newsletter by e-mail.
When we request contact information on our website, we request that the visitor certify that they are 13 years of age or older. DCM always provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving future communications from DCM. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link provided with the electronic newsletter. Furthermore, if at any time you wish to remove your information from our database so as not to receive future communications from us, or request that your information is not shared with third parties, please contact us by sending an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
All information collected for DCM newsletters is used to send visitors of the DCM Site who are 13 years of age and older the electronic newsletter. This information may be transferred, disclosed, or shared with third parties who may be engaged by us specifically to handle the preparation and delivery of the electronic newsletter and perform other related technical and processing functions. These third parties may not use it for other purposes and have agreed to maintain the confidentiality of such information.
Visitors to the DCM Site who are 13 years of age and older may e-mail us their questions about the games, activities, the DCM Site, and the museum. If a child under 13 years of age wishes to ask a question, he/she will be prompted to get their parent or guardian to ask the question on their behalf. We may ask for first names, but we request no personally identifiable information except an e-mail address.
Use and Disclosure of Information
Every time you enter personally identifiable information into the DCM Site your information gets stored into a confidential database with limited access. We use this information to respond to your requests, e-mails and purchases, send confirmation letters, and improve our website for you. If you do not want personal information about you stored in our database simply do not enter it into one of our online-forms.
In general, we use the personally identifiable information that is voluntarily provided to us solely for the purposes for which it is provided. DCM currently does not disclose to third parties personally identifiable information that visitors provide, except in some cases, where it may be necessary for us to share the information you provide to us with third parties that perform certain services on our behalf (such as sending e-mail newsletters or processing credit card orders) and that have agreed to maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of your information.
Non-personal information or aggregate information may be used to analyze data regarding your website visit to help us create a better experience for you. Such aggregate information does not contain personally identifiable information.
DCM is not in the business of selling information about our visitors to other individuals or organizations. However, DCM may disclose personally identifiable information to third parties in order to comply with law or requests by law enforcement agencies, to enforce our Terms and Conditions or to protect the rights, property or safety of the DCM Site, users of the DCM Site and others, which may include exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.
DCM is committed to helping parents and legal guardians protect the privacy of their children. DCM does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 years of age. If DCM becomes aware that any personally identifiable information has been collected from a child under the age of 13, DCM will promptly delete all such information. If DCM becomes aware that a child under 13 years of age has sent a request or e-mail to DCM, DCM may respond, but will delete the information after responding. DCM has set up the collection of personally identifiable information on the DCM Site to prohibit the collection of personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13 who may visit our site.
If at any time a parent or guardian becomes aware that a child under the age of 13 has submitted personally identifiable information to DCM, please contact DCM at any time to have this information deleted at: email@example.com or contact us as indicated below under How to Contact Us.
